Foot orthoses are shoe inserts designed to support, align, or improve the function of the foot. They are also often commonly referred to as ‘orthotics’. Orthoses fit comfortably inside your shoes. Orthoses provide valuable long-term solutions in the treatment and prevention of flat feet, high arched feet, corns and callous by redistributing the pressure of the body's weight on the feet. Orthoses also help with rehabilitation of acute and chronic foot conditions such as tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, recurrent ankle sprain and stress fractures, by providing consistent postural control. A number of biomechanical tests are conducted including a gait analysis and testing your muscles for any weakness. If you have been diagnosed with diabetes, you will know how important it is to look after your feet. If you have Diabetes it is suggested that you attend a podiatrist at least once a year. Diabetes can lead to poor circulation and loss of nerve sensitivity, which can often lead to skin trauma and poor healing. Our diabetic foot care services include an initial test that will determine your status and assess your risk. We test your nerves in your feet, with a monofilament and through vibration perception. It is also important to examine the blood flow to the feet through the use of a Doppler. We then send a letter to your GP which will provide the findings of our testing. The latest research shows that over 280 people are diagnosed with either Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes daily. This is why it is so important to check your feet regularly and to receive annual diabetic foot checks.

Heel pain is one of the most common conditions treated by podiatrists, there are two common types heel spurs and plantar fasciitis. The greatest incidence of heel pain is seen in middle-aged men and women. It is also seen in those who take part in regular sporting activities and those significantly overweight and on their feet a lot. Heel pain can also occur in children, usually between 8 and 13, as they become increasingly active in sporting activities. While heel pain has many causes, it is usually the result of faulty biomechanics (abnormalities in the way we walk). This can place too much stress on the heel bone and the soft tissues attached to it. The stress may also result from injury, or caused whilst walking, running or jumping on hard surfaces, wearing poorly constructed footwear; or being significantly overweight. Systemic diseases such as arthritis and diabetes can also contribute to heel pain.
Heel Spurs
A common cause of heel pain is the heel spur, a bony growth under the heel bone.
